A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO CARBON CAPTURE & STORAGE

Frontier Carbon Solutions is at the forefront of carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) innovation, offering transformative solutions for industrial emitters across the Mountain West.

We specialize in end-to-end CCUS infrastructure that serves as a foundation for low-carbon industrial operations. Our solutions are designed to integrate seamlessly with diverse industries, providing safe and permanent carbon storage options that can be accessed via pipeline, rail, or truck—ensuring flexibility for our partners across the Mountain West and beyond.

HOW SEQUESTRATION WORKS

Carbon sequestration involves capturing CO₂ emissions at their source, safely transporting them to a secure storage site, and injecting them deep into geologic formations for permanent storage. At Frontier, we use advanced monitoring and safety protocols to ensure this process is effective, reliable, and environmentally sound.

OUR PROJECTS

Sweetwater Carbon Storage Hub

The Sweetwater Carbon Storage Hub (SCS Hub) is one of the first open-source, multipurpose carbon storage hubs in North America. Spanning more than 100,000 acres in southwestern Wyoming, the SCS Hub provides a comprehensive carbon management solution for key industrial emitters. Backed by three Class VI UIC permits from the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality—the first of their kind in the state—the SCS Hub will securely store over 350 million metric tons of CO₂ when fully operational.

THE FRONTIER DIFFERENCE

Industry-Leading Infrastructure

Frontier offers the only carbon sequestration infrastructure across the Rockies capable of accepting CO₂ via multiple transport modes, including pipeline, rail, and truck. This flexibility enables emissions reductions across industries and geographies.

Commitment to Safety & Sustainability

Our state-of-the-art facilities are designed to exceed regulatory standards, ensuring long-term environmental protection and minimal disruption to the communities we serve.

Partnerships that Drive Innovation

We collaborate with state agencies, research institutions, and private companies, to leverage the latest technologies and maximize our impact in the fight against climate change.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CO₂, or carbon dioxide, is a colorless and non-flammable gas. It naturally occurs in the atmosphere and plays a critical role in trapping heat to maintain Earth’s temperature. However, elevated CO₂ levels from human activity can disrupt natural systems and contribute to rising global temperatures.

Yes, Frontier Carbon Solutions sequesters CO₂ in some of the deepest geologic zones across the Mountain West. These formations are protected by multiple layers of sealing caprocks, and their depth ensures that the CO₂ remains securely stored underground, providing a safe and permanent solution.

CO₂ injection technology has been in safe use for more than 30 years, particularly in enhanced oil recovery operations. Across the Mountain West, millions of tons of CO₂ are injected annually, supported by advanced monitoring systems to ensure safety and reliability.

The SCS Hub spans more than 100,000 acres in southwestern Wyoming, making it one of North America’s largest open-source carbon storage hubs. Once fully operational, it will store more than 350 million metric tons of CO₂, with the capacity to sequester 10 million tons annually—the equivalent of removing 2 million cars from the road.

The Mountain West is uniquely equipped with the natural resources and geologic formations needed for large-scale carbon capture and storage. Its deep, stable reservoirs are ideal for long-term sequestration, while the region’s established industrial infrastructure, including rail and pipelines, supports efficient carbon management.
