FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CO2, or carbon dioxide, is a colorless and non-flammable gas. It is an important greenhouse gas that helps trap heat in our atmosphere. An increase in CO2 concentration in our atmosphere can cause global temperatures to rise, and disrupt other aspects of climate.

Frontier sequesters CO2 in some of the deepest geologic zones across Wyoming. These deep zones are protected by multiple, sealing caprocks and the depth ensures the sequestered CO2 stays underground.

CO2 injection has been safely in use for more than 30 years, primarily to support oil production. In Wyoming alone, more than 5MM tons per year of CO2 are injected into oil fields.

The SCS Hub spans over 50,000 acres in southwestern Wyoming. When fully developed, the SCS Hub is expected to store over 350 million metric tons of CO2 in geologic reservoirs. At scale, we can sequester 10 million tons/yr of CO2. That’s the equivalent of taking 2 million cars off the road.

Wyoming is home to some of the nation’s most important domestic industries. It is also a home for many of us. As carbon management becomes a global priority, we want to ensure Wyoming industries remain globally competitive and Wyoming communities stay resilient during changing economic times.
